Beat the Heat is proud to host the NC USATF 5K Championship. To enhance the Championship experience and spectating, this race will be run as a separate event immediately following the regular Beat the Heat 5K race. The Championship course is modified layout with 3.6 laps on the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, utilizing the same finish line, but different start line as the regular 5K. The course is USATF Certified Course NC21004DF. Click on the PDF link below to download a copy of the course map.
To be eligible for USATF awards, athletes must be a current USATF NC member and a 12-month resident of North Carolina. Check the Awards Page for information about award categories and prize money. Elite runners may participate as award ineligible competitors. Award ineligible participants will be included in results, but cannot earn any USATF awards prize money.
Participants in the event typically run a sub 20 minute 5K. If you are a NC USATF member with an expected time of greater than 20 minutes, then we can allow you to run in the regular Beat the Heat 5K race and still be eligible for the NC USATF 5K Championship.
