Race Day Set Up Morning Shift High Priority

Details

Major set up activities will be completed in the morning including the finish line, fencing, cones, signage and more.
Prep Elite Course (bring a leaf blower if you have one to remove/blow off debris);
Place/move traffic cones to mark course routes, especially on midway “track” (use Fairgrounds cones) and area between coliseum entrance and education building
Wear gloves.
We'll try to finish up no later than 11am.

Details

Clean water containers prior to use;
Fill water containers and stage for use;
Place a self serve water station in an area for runners to access prior to their events;
Fill water cups in advance of race starts;
Hand water to runners as they finish (all events: 1 Mile/Fun Run, 5K, Elite 5K);
Attend to any participants that appear to need assistance or medical treatment;
Pick up cups/debris and place in trash containers;
Clean up area at end of race and return supplies

5K Course Runner Support

On Course Water Station

Details

The on-course water station is position where runners will pass 3 times during the race. Volunteers will park in a lot off Shorefair Drive close to the water station location.
Hand water to runners as they pass by;
Attend to any participants that appear to need assistance or medical treatment;
Pick up cups/debris and place in trash containers;
Clean up area after last runner passes;
Relocate to the fairgrounds to cheer on the elite race and participate in post race festivities

5K Course Monitor Team

This is a great job for seeing the race in progress! You will keep runners on the course and traffic off the course. Monitors will be assigned to needed locations to support the 5K race.
Relocate to the fairgrounds after the 5K race to cheer on the Elite 5K racers and participate in post race festivities.

Bicycle Course Monitor Team

You must be 18 or older to volunteer for this task.

Ride courses in advance to ensure familiarity.
Provide runners with direction assistance to keep on course for all races.
Help to provide runner safety and be on the lookout for runners needing assistance.
Spread out so both the front and back of the field are appropriately monitored.
Wear helmets at all times when on bike.
Assist with equipment pack up after the races.

1 Mile Finisher Ribbon Distribution.

Details

This role involves helping to prepare and serve the post-race food and refreshments. Volunteers will clean up after serving is completed and make sure trash has been properly stored. Refreshments will include pizza and sub sandwiches from local restaurants and cut up fruit.
Ice down drinks ahead of time.
Meet food vendors/sponsors at gate to receive donated food.
Prepare food and drinks for serving.
Replenish items as needed for participant access.
Dispose of leftover food and food containers in trash bags.
Recycle as much as possible (glass/plastic in clear trash bags; compost food items).
Clean up area at end of event and break down tables.

Beer Team

You must be 21 or older to volunteer for this task.

Put ice on beer in tubs for participants to self serve.
Monitor access to beer area to prevent underage drinking.
Apply wristband to legal age persons entering the beer area.
Monitor consumption; recommended 2 beer max; 3 beers OK for lower ABV products)
Ensure empty cans/bottles are put into trash and/or recycling (clear trash bags for recycling).
Take down barriers and clean up area after event.
Remove all beer from site after event.
