Rating of Perceived Exertion, or RPE, will be the driver behind all workouts. At first, coupling RPE with actual effort (i.e. heart rate or power output) can be difficult, but over time the brain/body connection improves significantly. This leads to improvements in negative splitting time and therefore faster times. Time and effort also work across all speeds and ability levels.
