Beat the Heat is proud to host the NC USATF 5K Championship. To enhance the Championship experience and spectating, this race will be run as a separate event immediately following the regular Beat the Heat 5K race. The Championship course is modified layout with 4 laps, utilizing the same finish line, but different start line as the regular 5K. A course map can be viewed in the attached pdf. 5K USATF Certified (NC18027DF), USATF Sanctioned, RRCA sanctioned.*
To be eligible for USATF awards, athletes must be a current USATF NC member and a 12-month resident of North Carolina. For information on the Series and updates, please check www.northcarolina.usatf.org.
Check the Awards page for information about award categories and prize money.
Participants in the event typically run a sub 20 minute 5K. If you are a NC USATF member with an expected time of greater than 20 minutes, then we can allow you to run in the regular Beat the Heat 5K race and still be eligible for the NC USATF 5K Championship. Contact the race director at firstname.lastname@example.org to inquire about this option.
Elite runners may contact the race director at email@example.com to inquire about complimentary entry time standards.
* Note that we are still awaiting approval from Wake Forest to host the event on their property. We have contingency plans to move the race to a different certified course if WFU approval is not obtained.
